Beltane at Extrasensory

We created a Beltane ritual celebrating spring, fertility, our senses, desire and connection to Country.  Beltane is held on 1st May in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s the one with the maypole and the green man but apparently this is 19th Century recreation so we took lots of creative liberties.  Australia does not need more British traditions imposed on the land and multicultural nation so we were glad to experiment and use lots of local eucalyptus and bottle brush.
Celebrating the seasons connects us to our bodies and the local land.  We honoured Buath Gurru, the Wurrundjeri season of flowering grasses, and expressed our longing for local traditions.
It was a joy to collaborate with creative powerhouse Jessica Aszodi who was also our host at the experimental cultural hub Extrasensory.
